The Gears of War 4 open beta is now available to download on Xbox One.
It's been a tough week of staring wistfully at the closed beta for those longing for a return to the ranks, but fire up your console and you too could be enjoying the franchise's trademark brutal multiplayer.
The beta runs through May 1 so you have plenty of time to re-familiarise yourself with the action before the full game releases. It's worth doing so, and not just to make sure you're good to go on launch day; make it to level 20 to unlock exclusive rewards for Gears of War 4. If for some reason you can't get online during this period, you can check out some Gears of War 4 multiplayer footage and cry a little bit.
If you've been playing the closed beta, tell us - is it worth checking out? There wasn't much buzz around the last Gears of War game, Judgment, but that may be because Microsoft didn't make a serious marketing push for the People Can Fly-developed prequel. This new entry is generating significantly more hype, but some fans have concerns about the switch from Epic to The Coalition - even though producer Rod Fergusson is still on board. Reassure us, will you?
