With the Gears 4 beta going open today, everyone with an Xbox One can now get a taste of what's in store later in the year.
The Gears of War 4 will end on May 1. You can download and play it now, at a cost of a little over 7Gb of hard drive space. Small price to pay, really.
Playing the beta will net you rewards in the full game, assuming you reach level 20, and you'll also get to see how Gears has made the transition to the next-generation. It sure looks purdy. Not much doubt about that.
Gears 4 is set 25 years after the final destruction of the Locust and all the other bullet-sponges on planet Sera, and focuses on Marcus's son, JD Fenix. Humanity has walled itself off in fortress cities and the COG has declared martial law, making it illegal to travel beyond the enclaves' boundaries, although some humans, called Outsiders, have decided to shun COG rule and live in the wasteland.
