Gary Gygax memorial site approved

Wisconsin authorities have approved the placement of a memorial to Gary Gygax in Donian Park, in the designer's home town of Lake Geneva.

The City of Lake Geneva Board of Park Commissioners passed a motion to approve the site unanimously, granting a site not more than 10 feet by 10 feet.

Donian Park is a four acre park bordering the White River. The planned memorial site is south of the walkway, on the southeast corner of Mill Creek.

The memorial will take the form of a broze bust of Gygax on a castle turret, possibly featuring a dragon. It's only fitting.

It's hard to overstate what Gygax meant to modern gaming; his pioneering work on Dungeons and Dragons paved the way for role playing games to come, and thereby influenced game design from Wizardry and Final Fantasy through Blur and Modern Warfare 2. He passed away in 2008, aged 70.

The Board of Park Commissioners has asked Gail Gygax for a final design and site map ahead of construction. Visit the Gygax Memorial Fund website if you'd like to drop a few dollars in the hat for the memorial.
