GameStop to offer PowerUp Card in its European stores

GameStop's to start handing out PowerUp rewards cards at its European stores.

Introduced in the US back in October as a replacement to the Edge card, with PowerUp users earn points with every trade-in and purchase which can then be redeemed for merchandise in-store or online.

Consumers will also be able to purchase the Pro version of the card for $15 which "guarantees early access to game betas".

Mike Mauler, the retailer's International EVP, told MCV the idea for this came from “very, very powerful loyalty program” at GameStop’s French chain, Micromania.

“One thing we were very surprised by was the perception that the majority of our loyalty card members would be hardcore gamers – but the majority aren’t hardcore, it’s mums, grandmas and dads joining up," he said.
