Games Now! The best iPhone and iPad games for Friday, August 7th

What a great week for shooters! Here are the best new games for your iPhone and iPad this week.

The best PAID iOS games this week

Operation Dracula: $5.99 (iPad, iPhone)

Operation Dracula is an excellent old school Shmup. It feels like I should be dropping coins in a slot for credits. The gameplay is somewhere between bullet hell and 1943, tough but never unfair. Controls are great, graphics are smooth and clear, and the music is utterly fantastic. Pick this one up.

Domino Drop: $2.59 (iPad, iPhone)

Domino Drop is an example of a simple idea executed phenomenally well. Dominos drop, at your own pace, from the top of the screen. Dominos with matching dot numbers disappear. There’s no time limit, the sound and music is relaxed, and everything has a wonderful tactile look and feel. Highly recommended for puzzle fans.

Farming Simulator 16: $4.99 (iPad, iPhone)

Simulators are an odd bunch. I’d never seen the attraction until I dropped a few hours into this. It’s great and I don’t know why. Maybe it’s pottering around in the tractor? Maybe it’s ploughing the field? Maybe it’s joyriding through town on my combine harvester? There’s even local farmer multiplayer!

The best FREE iOS games this week

.Decluster Zero: Bullet Nocturne Lite (iPad, iPhone)

This is the ‘Lite’ version of the notable iOS shooter .Decluster Zero: Bullet Nocturne. It’s Daddy is an excellent bullet hell shooter and this ‘demo’ version actually has plenty of content for free. It’s a great way to dip your toes into the bullet hell to see if you’re up to the full version. ($2.99 and worth every cent)

Shibuya Grandmaster (iPad, iPhone)

Blocks fall from the top of the screen. You can tap to colour them from a changing selection of colours. Once coloured, matching groups of blocks can be eliminated by tapping on them. Sounds easy enough. It’s not! There’s a strong Lumines vibe to this one, which is a very very good thing.

Angry Birds 2 (iPad, iPhone)

Angry Birds 2 is here and it’s very much a Hollywood sequel. Everything is flashier, bigger, longer, and, not necessarily, better but certainly just as good as the original. The IAPs and nudges to watch video adverts are a little too aggressive but it’s a well made, enjoyable, game regardless.
