Gamers for Good creating fan art book to help Blizzard artist fight cancer

Kevin Kanai Griffith, an artist working on Diablo 3, has been battling a rare cancer called Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma for more than a year now and non-profit Gamers for Good is lending a helping hand. The organisation is compiling an artbook of fan-art from Kevin's favourite games, including Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6 and Super Metroid to help him pay for his increasingly expensive health care.

The artbook already has more than a hundred submissions, but Gamers for Good are still accepting more for the book up until November 10th. All proceeds from the artbook go directly to Kevin and his wife. The artbook isn't available for pre-order yet, as they probably still need to work out how much art to include and determine what that will cost to print.

Speaking to Develop, Liz Cooper, one of Gamers for Good's founders said that she's personally watched Kevin go through his battle with cancer.

"We have watched a guy who was quick to give back to the game community, game artists and those all around him slide from that position to one where he needed. Being a giver it is hard to become someone who needs. Kevin spent so many hours promoting the art community at Blizzard.Gamers for Good came to fruition to make this project possible, we had been kicking the idea around for a bit, but this gave it purpose."

“The artbook was chosen as our outlet because of how much of a huge gamer Kevin is and how connected to the game art community he is. For so many that know and love Kevin, this was a natural way to both present something anyone would be willing to pay for and something that Kevin would enjoy having made in his honour.”

Thanks, Develop.
