Gameforge cancels games, lets go 20% of staff

German browser-based games publisher Gameforge has announced a re-organisation, laying off one fifth of its staff and canceling a number of games.

A report on IndustryGamers has Gameforge letting go 100 and of its 500 employees.

Action RPG Hellbreed - which launched in August - and the Diablo-like Mythos have both been cancelled, although international servers provided by other publishers remain active.

The cancelled games have already vanished from Gameforge's list of supported titles; other titles including Wizard 101, Cabal and Ikarium appear to be unaffected.

That said, Star Trek: Infinite Space is also in jeopardy; Gameforge is seeking a co-publishing partner, and until one is found, plans for the game's beta have been put on hold.

As part of the restructuring, Gameforge will consolidate its client and browser-based divisions, instead focusing on the split between internal development and publishing.

Gameforge finalised its acquisition of Frogster in August, and claims to be the largest provider of online games in Europe.
