GameFly officially announces acquisition of Direct2Drive

GameFly has officially announced its acquisition of Direct2Drive from IGN Entertainment.

It will see the digital game service adding over 3,000 PC and Mac titles for purchase to GameFly's extensive console game subscription service.

GameFly's chief executive officer, Dave Hodess, told Shacknews there will be no changes to either service in the immediate future.

The firm plans to offer new options to customers of both service down the road, though.

"We have some ideas but need to get the D2D team onboard and benefit from their experience," said Hodess. "We will let our customers know as soon as we are ready to roll them out."

Hodess also said he was aware that customers are interested in PC game rentals and the firm "will investigate this idea thoroughly."
