GAME is charging people up to £15 to try out the PS VR in stores

This is happening.

Thinking about buying a PlayStation VR? Why not pay to try one in a GAME store?

This is a real thing that's going on at UK retailer GAME and people are p**sed, as evident by the responses on Twitter to the tweets coming from GAME stores in different cities.

You can leave your name and contact details with GAME when you book a date and time for your demo slot and choose from the options available which include 10 minutes for a fiver, 20 minutes for a tenner, or 30 minutes for £15.

According to Eurogamer, the small print illustrates just how fun the experience will be, giving you a taste of what it might be like to have one at home - if you were a small child with sticky fingers that promises to sit still, be good and not touch anything while mummy pops it on your head for a few brief minutes.

  • Remain seated at all times and until headset is removed;
  • close eyes and raise your hand if you become uncomfortable and want to stop the demo;
  • remain calm and minimise erratic head and limb movements;
  • stop moving if GAME staff place a hand on your shoulder; and
  • not touch, remove or interfere with the headset or connected equipment except as directed by GAME staff.

If your time sitting motionless in a chair, snuffing out sparks of excitement as they ignite has got you off the fence, then the good news is that you can have the money you spent on the demo deducted from a PS VR deposit as long as you hand it over right then and there. The offer is only applicable immediately after finishing the demo.

If you've already put down a deposit and can provide proof, then you are one of the chosen, and can have the 30 minute demo for free. You lucky duck!

Update: GAME has sent us the following statement, noting that the price goes toward having dedicated, fully-trained staff on hand.

"Our pay-to-play PlayStation VR experience is a GAME-led initiative. The cost to use the in-store PS4 pod is entirely refundable for customers that go on to buy either the headset or a PS4 console.

"The payment allows us to ensure that we have dedicated staff manning the PlayStation VR pods who have been fully trained to adhere to best practice demo guidelines. The demos are intended to give our customers access to one of the most exciting new gaming technologies in 2016 and provide them with the opportunity to get a feel for VR before they commit to buy."
