Retro sci-fi shoot 'em up Furi gets a Nintendo Switch release date - and it's next week

Lighting-quick action shoot ‘em up, Furi, is coming to the Nintendo Switch next Thursday, January 11, 2018.

This news comes by way of developers The Game Bakers on Twitter, who confirmed the release date yesterday.

Blending elements of bullet-hell, twin-stick shooting and hack-and-slash melee combat with a neon drenched retro sci-fi aesthetic and pumping original soundtrack, Furi might just be the game you’re looking for if you want stylish action on the Switch.

Built completely around white-knuckle boss fights, Furi is “balanced to be challenging and demanding”, so don’t walk in expecting an easy ride. Since there’re no intermediate levels to pad out the run-time, each marquee fight goes the distance.

We really liked Furi when it came out on PS4, praising its “focused, unwavering design” and its ability to convert nonbelievers to the boss-rush genre by combining each of its seemingly disparate parts so effectively. So if you’ve got a Switch, now’s as good a time as any to try one of our favourite indie games of 2016.
