Fortnite has more monthly active users than GTA Online

Fortnite has been the hottest ticket in the last couple of months, stealing away players from long-standing franchises and making more money than most of them.

Fortnite's rise to popularity has been no secret. If it's not setting records on Twitch and YouTube, it's spilling over onto mainstream news by being popular with celebrities, school children, and practically everywhere else.

But just how much of that translates into actual revenue for Epic Games? Well, according to analyst firm SuperData, the game is not only raking it in, it's beating mega-franchises on consoles.

In SuperData's February report, the company revealed that Fortnite now has more monthly active users than GTA Online.

Granted, Fortnite is free-to-play and GTA Online is not, but considering the game only recently broke its own player records, Fortnite's achievement is impressive. To say nothing of the brand recognition of GTA.

And consider this, Take-Two regularly cites GTA Online's revenues as its main profit driver every quarter, so beating it is no small feat.

Fortnite also made more money through in-game sales than every other console game during February, with the exception of Call of Duty: WW2.

It not only beat GTA Online, a staple of the top ten earners each month, it also surpassed big releases like Monster Hunter World, FIFA 18, and many others.

As a result of this performance, the game pushed the free-to-play console segment to a 359% year-over-year growth. It's not doing too bad on PC, either, coming in at number six in overall revenue, one spot below PUBG.
