Funcom is best known for enormous MMOs these days, but its experiments with smaller projects continue.
Age of Conan and The Secret World developer Funcom produced an interesting narrative-driven game called The Park just in time for Halloween last year, which I quite enjoyed even though I hate Chad with the fury of a thousand parking ticket recipients.
It was an unusual change of pace for the company after years of focus on MMOs, but it looks like it intends to make a thing of it, at least in October. This year's effort is called Hide and Shriek, and it's a 1v1 multiplayer game coming to Steam on October 31.
Funcom describes Hide and Shriek as "a ticket to quick, fun ten-minute multiplayer matches" in which players set each other up with "traps and surprises". Both players are invisible to each other and score points for scaring the other with their constructions, but it's not yet clear how the game judges a successful scare. Intriguing.
Like The Park, Hide and Shriek was developed by a small team to build expertise with the Unreal Engine.
