Flying is coming to WoW: Warlords of Draenor

World of Warcraft players will soon be able to soar majestically through the skies of Draenor, just as they've always longed to.

WoW developer Blizzard has capitulated to player demand and elected to bring flying to the new regions added in Warlords of Draenor, the latest expansion.

As of patch 6.2, players will be able to earn an achievement by completing a series of tasks indicating they have thoroughly explored the region on foot.

In a second, minor patch released shortly thereafter, any player with this achievement on at least one character will unlock the ability to fly in Draenor with all level 90 characters.

"World of Warcraft is full of memorable moments that are only possible when players explore the world by ground," lead designer Ion Hazzikostas wrote in a blog post on Battle.net.

"However, while we firmly believe that keeping your feet on the ground is a key part of discovery in WoW, we also recognize that breaking free from those restrictions can be fun and rewarding as well, especially for those who’ve already fully experienced the game’s world content.

"With that in mind, we’re planning some changes in the near future that will allow players to enjoy their hard-earned flying mounts in Draenor - in a way that doesn’t compromise the excitement of ground-based exploration."
