Flappy Bird clones run riot on App Store following game's withdrawal from marketplace

Flappy Bird has caused a run of controversy and debate since it released, but since creator Dong Nguyen decided to withdraw the endless flying game from App Store, a large volume of clones has emerged.

We reported on Nguyen's decision to remove Flappy Bird from the App Store at the weekend, after claims that backlash surrounding the game is ruining his home life.

The anger began after it emerged that the game was netting Nguyen some $50,000 a day in ad revenue, and given the game's simplistic nature and the fact that it uses green pipes - similar to Super Mario Bros' design - many gamers out there chose to call Nguyen out as a plagiarist.

Since the game has been pulled, Eurogamer has dug a little deeper into the App Store to find that Flappy Birds itself has been cloned within an inch of its life.

While the original Flappy Bird was free, clone Fly Birdie - Flappy Bird Flyer charges you £0.69 per three lives. It's currently number two in the free app charts on iTunes.

Meanwhile, Fluffy vs. Flappy Birds offers players a chance to remove adverts for £1.49 and includes in-app currency top-ups for £6.99.

Have a look at the clones and the Eurogamer piece for more examples. What's your take on the Flappy Birds issue so far? Let us know below.
