Firefall beta invites begin this month

Although Firefall won't have a traditionally structured pre-launch beta, you can get on board the game in the wake of PAX Prime.

Firefall is expected to launch officially in December, but Red 5 boss Mark Kern commented in an open letter that it won't be a traditional release.

"We already consider ourselves 'launched'. We will not have a traditional beta, open beta, launch process," he explained.

"We no longer feel this makes sense in a modern, online, service oriented business, especially a free2play game. Instead, we have modeled our launch after G-mail’s invite system.

"The way this works is that we bring testers and content up in layers. As each layer proves itself out, we give our testers invite slots, which they are free to send to their fellow gamers. It’s a great way to grow the game through people’s social networks, which is what we want for our team and clan oriented game."

Firefall has been in closed beta testing for some time now, apparently involving hundred of testers drawn from friends and family of the development team, and you have a chance to get in once the game is shown off at PAX Prime at the end of August, according to a new post on the game's blog.

Players can register on the game's website, which essentially creates the account you'll use in the full release. Red 5 boasts over 200,000 sign-ups so far. A small number of invites will be shared with users selected from this pool.

Red 5 also intend to host invite give-aways on the game's site and with media partners, and to allow players to invite their friends, as mentioned above. Another reason to get on the game's forums and be friendly, if you're keen to get in.
