Final Fantasy 7 Remake TGS 2019 demonstration shows a boss battle, Classic mode, Summons

Square Enix showed a glimpse of Classic Mode, a boss battle, and Summons during its Final Fantasy 7 Remake TGS 2019 demonstration.

In Final Fantasy 7 Remake, players will be able to choose between Easy, Normal, and Classic modes.

As with the original game, in Classic Mode, players will wait around until the ATB Gauge fills up. They can then select a move to initiate an attack. With Classic Mode, the team has re-created the same style of play, according to Square.

In standard modes, the ATB Gauge fills up by repeatedly attacking your enemy, but in Classic Mode, this is handled automatically. When playing in Classic Mode, the player doesn't have to worry about the "action side of the combat system," and can instead focus on selecting commands, making it possible to play it "as if it were a classic menu-based RPG."

The presentation also provided a look at one of the boss fights in the game. In it, Aerith, Cloud, and Tifa fight Aps in the sewers of Midgar. It shows Aerith's ranged attacks, and how using the Triangle button unleashes her character ability "Tempest".

Summons were also shown during the battle scene.

Each character can equip up to one Summon Materia each, and it up to the player to decide which Summon to equip.

This was demonstrated using Cloud, who had the Ifrit Summon Materia equipped. Having this summon equipped allowed his Summon Gauge to fill up completely over time. Once full, Cloud summoned Ifrit, who remained on the battlefield. While Summons are are usually controlled by AI, Cloud spent his ATB charges to make Ifrit use his unique abilities, such as Flare Burst and Crimson Dive.

Ifrit remained on the battlefield fighting until Cloud's Summon Gauge depleted. Once this occurred, Ifrit performed his ultimate attack, Hellfire.
