Final Fantasy 7 Remake PS4 leaked for PS Plus in March, but won't be a free PS5 upgrade

Leak suggests the RPG could be free PlayStation Plus game in March.

It looks like Final Fantasy 7 Remake is set for PlayStation Plus in March, but this cannot be upgraded to the PS5 edition.

As spotted by Twitter user Nibel, The Japanese PlayStation Store says that the PS4 version of the game is set to launch into the PS Plus Instant Game Collection next month, but if you score the RPG this way you cannot upgrade it to the PlayStation 5 version free of charge.

You might think that this is a bit of a dick move on the part of publisher Square Enix, but letting people upgrade a free version of a game for free would just be stupid from a business point-of-view.

News that people who already own Final Fantasy 7 Remake for PlayStation 4 could upgrade to a newly-announced PS5 edition for free was announced yesterday during Sony's State of Play broadcast. That was revealed alongside the next episode for the remake of the iconic RPG, Intergrade, which is set to launch on June 10 this year.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake debuted in April 2020, selling 3.5 million copies in its first three days on the market. By August, Square Enix said that the game sold more than five million copies.

In our review for the title, we described it as "the best Final Fantasy has been in a long time."
