Final Fantasy 7 remake will be even more beautiful than the trailer, says Nomura

Final Fantasy 7's magnificent remake teaser trailer might not be indicative of final graphics quality - because it will be better.

The Final Fantasy 7 remake trailer looked amazing, but director Tetsuya Nomua isn't finished in his quest to make Cloud and friends look as beautiful as possible.

"We're going to raise the quality even more," Nomura said in a Famitsu interview translated by Gematsu.

I'm gonna go out on a pretty sturdy-looking limb here and assume Nomura is talking about cinematic cutscenes rather than in-engine graphics, because holy hell.

"We’re using part of that video in the game," the director also said, which probably means it was built from development assets rather than just put together out of totally separate materials.

The rest of the interview mainly repeats or riffs on things we already know - that Square Enix hopes the FF7 remake will boost PS4 sales, and that the remake is a full rebuild rather than just a graphics overhaul, so gameplay systems will change.

Nomura did add one snippet of new information, confirming that no new characters will appear - although he didn't answer a query about whether the story or scenario would change. Still, we know he wants to keep some of the most memorable moments, like Cloud's cross-dressing.

The project is still in the very early stages, but we're expecting to hear more about the Final Fantasy 7 remake at the end of the year.
