Final Fantasy 14 update 2.1 player housing detailed

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn gets player housing in the next major update, and Square Enix has detailed how your free company can get a home of its own.

In a Lodestone post, Square Enix confirmed that individual player housing is still a way away, but that free companies will be able to acquire a collective home as of the next update.

The free company must be of a sufficient rank, and have obtained a Land Acquisition entitlement.

Residential districts will be instanced to accommodate fluctuating player populations, and entrances will be found in various locations in each city-state.

Plots of land will be sold by auction, and you can buy one in whatever city you choose, regardless of your free company's affiliation. Each free company can only buy one plot at present, and only authorised members can make the decision.

The auctions work by reducing the designated price every six hours, meaning the richest companies can get in ahead of the pack. Prices will be posted on a placard at the plot's entrance.

Once you've acquired the land, a house permit is needed to generate a building. A house is composed of four mandatory parts, and four optional parts, many of which can be customised. Players can place and edit various items in the interior and around the garden, too. Most items used to customise or decorate the house will be consumed.

Later, Square Enix plans to add crafting workshops, an orchestrion to change the music played inside houses, a chocobo stable, mannequins that can be dressed with player gear, a bulletin board, and more.

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is available now on PC and PlayStation 3, and is headed to PS4.
