Fils-Aime on Wii 2: "We're not there yet"

Just in case you didn't hear Cammie Dunaway clearly enough last month, NoA boss Reggie Fils-Aime's told Forbes that a Wii successor is some way away.

"When the software developer comes forward with an idea that can't be executed on the current platform, that's when we start thinking seriously about the next system," he said.

"We're not there yet, from a Wii perspective."

He also dropped more cold water on contiuing Wii HD talk, saying it simply isn't going to happen for the sake of it.

"So when people talk about high definition for the Wii console our feedback is that that by itself will not create a brand new experience," Fils-Aime said.

"Therefore, we're not interested. What we have to push for are groundbreaking new experiences. Technology has to enable it, not to be a means all by itself."

NoA marketing boss Cammie Dunaway said at the firm's US media summit last month that, "I don’t think it’ll be any time soon,” when asked by Gamespot when we're going to see another under-the-TV Nintendo console.

“Even though our installed base is, at this point, 5 million households larger than the PS2 was at the same point in its lifecycle, [Wii] still has a lot of room to grow," she said.
