Farmville 2 is the top app on Facebook

Farmville 2 has nearly 50 million users and is Facebook's most popular app.

According to AppData, the sequel currently has 48.9 million monthly average users, making it the most used app on Facebook, ahead of fellow Zynga effort Texas Hold'em Poker (38.1 million MAUs) and even Instagram (34.9 million MAUs).

Farmville 2 follows up on the game that made Zynga a household name; the original Farmville once topped out at 80 million MAUs and is still one of the top 20 apps on Facebook with 18.8 million MAUs.

Zyngas has four more entries in the top 20 for a total of seven; Chefville (33.1 million MAUs), Zynga Slingo (28.7 million MAUs), Bubble Safari (28.1 million MAUs) and The Ville (19.6 million MAUs).

Despite these massive player numbers, Zynga's in a bit a of a slide. Its social gaming revenues have been drying up and it's been throwing resources at mobile development; its had to lower its expectations on the back of a couple of disappointing quarters, and investors are not pleased at all.

Zynga went public in December 2011 and raised $1 billion, the largest tech IPO since Google. Its $10 shares began a nosedive just days later.
