Fallout 76's latest PC beta update caps frame-rate at 63fps, locks FOV

Bethesda has locked Fallout 76's frame-rate in the most recent beta patch on PC.

The penultimate Fallout 76 beta session, which took place last night, went live with a few improvements on consoles and PC. Not all of these have been welcomed by players, however, particularly those on PC.

As you've probably seen, Fallout 76's unlimited FPS on PC was causing the classic increase in speed and screwing up physics. This has been the case for many Bethesda games, but the developer decided to act now because frame-rate tweaks have the potential of ruining a multiplayer game like Fallout 76.

It admittedly may be impossible to uncouple physics simulation and animation from frame-rate just days before release, so Bethesda decided to instead lock the frame-rate. Players on Reddit have reported a locked 63fps on PC.

While you were previously able to unlock the frame-rate through the game's .ini files, this is no longer possible. Switching the files to read-only also doesn't work.

One other change the patch made was to the game's FOV, which players could also tweak to their liking before. This value is now locked, though at least it appears to respect your monitor's resolution, which means ultra-wide users shouldn't have any problems.

Reports suggest the default FOV is around 80-90, which is fine for most players.

That's certainly not ideal, but these are the sorts of concessions players will have to live with to play an online version of Fallout. There's one final Fallout 76 beta test planned for tomorrow, check out session times at the link.

Fallout 76 is out November 14 on PC, PS4, Xbox One.
