Prolific Fallout 4 battle coordinator Cosmic Contrarian is back at it again with another amazing showdown.
This time, 20,000 red ghouls throw themselves at an army of Commonwealth citizens. Although the humans are well positioned on high ground and behind cover, defended by a variety of turrets and armed with lasers and molotovs, it's not a one-sided fight. The ghouls only have melee attacks but they're alarmingly hardy. Any poor wastelander who gets swarmed is in for a world of hurt.
We won't spoil the ending but no matter how you pooh-pooh ghouls as enemies you must admit 20,000 of them is a daunting prospect; sometimes just one powerful ghoul is a nightmare. Even edited down (and set to a soundtrack from Killing Floor) the battle takes over 13 minutes.
My PC would melt if I tried a battle even half this size, but it's not just a matter of sheer power; Cosmic puts a lot of work into finding the right camera angles to capture the carnage so that you get to see every major engagement as the combat wages on.
The YouTuber says his next project is an Automatron DLC robot battle, which should be pretty rad; I loved Fallout 4's Automatron DLC, and a large part of its appeal is the variety and deadliness of the robots on offer. I don't know if you saw Cosmic's last robot battle, in which 20,000 assaultron, synths and sentrybots go at it. Pretty intense.
