Extinction's latest trailer proves it's the God of War-Dragon's Dogma mashup we need

Extinction, Iron Galaxy and Modus' action game with a heavy emphasis on flashy combat, has a new trailer that gives a good overview of what to expect.

Extinction was recently given an April release date, and today, we get to see more of what the game is about in a new trailer.

The trailer sets up Extinction's main story, which stars Avil, the last of an ancient order known as the Sentinels. Their job is to defend human cities from the Ravenii, towering ogres who've been at war with humanity.

But the Ravenii haven't been seen in many long years, and have become more of a myth than an actual threat, until they show up of course. The setup sounds interesting on its own, but it's the movement and combat that look the most exciting.

Being developed by fighting game masters at Iron Galaxy, Extinction relies on some fighting game mechanics in the way moves are performed and linked. The developer said that you'll be able to cancel any attack into another, which creates a lot of options in combat, and looks noticeably simpler than fighting games' often complex combos.

Areal launches, ground smacks, AOE attacks can all be seen in the trailer. Together with the game's movement system, which features plenty of double jumps and a neat grappling whip, makes for some flashy moves. These movement abilities can be used to traverse the game world, and also when fighting the massive bosses.

You'll be taking down the giant monsters with an attack called a Rune Strike, which adds a dismemberment element to the fight for some classic God of War moments. Take a look:
