Expect "something new" with The Legend of Zelda Wii U, says Aonuma

The Legend of Zelda Wii U producer Eiji Aonuma has said fans of the franchise should "expect something new" with the next outing.

Speaking in the latest issue of Famitsu and translated by Kotaku, Aonuma told the magazine development is "progressing well" and that he and his team has been very "busy" recently.

"The game has really taken shape, and things have gotten easier," he said. "That means things are progressing well.

I think the base of our secret sauce has always been Ocarina of Time, but this time, the change in flavor will be like going from Japanese food to Western style food.

"Perhaps, players will be surprised. Please look forward to it, because I think we'll be able to make 'something new' like Ocarina of Time was."

Nintendo has pegged the unnamed Zelda game for late 2016, and there are rumors claiming the game could either skip Wii U and launch on Nintendo NX, or launch simultaneously on both consoles.

Hopefully we'll hear more on the next The Legend of Zelda game in June, and on the next console as well.
