Eugen: Console RTS key "not about hardcore micro controls"

ruse

R.U.S.E. senior producer Mathieu Girard has told VG247 that understanding that RTS is "not about hardcore micro controls" is the key to cracking the genre on consoles.

In the past year, console RTS has had something of a tough time, with Halo Wars and Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 failing to set world on fire in terms of sales.

But, speaking in an interview with us on the state of the RTS, Girard insists R.U.S.E. is different.

"It is difficult to foresee the future and very easy to criticize the past. But I think that if you want to make a strategy game on console, you must understand what strategy is about (and it is not about hardcore micro controls and options), and what console is about," he said.

"We have tried to accommodate that on RUSE. There are actually some aspects of the game, such as navigating the map, that feel more comfortable on the pad."

R.U.S.E. was due out in the second half of fiscal 2009, but was delayed recently until after March 31.

It'll be released on PS3, 360 and PC.
