Escape from Tarkov dev diary: mo-cap, weapons, military advisers shrouded in darkness

Battlestate Games has released a new developer diary for Escape from Tarkov, and it's full of motion capture, weapons, and military advisers who aren't keen on showing their faces.

According to the Russia-based studio, the game takes place in the year 2028 and is set in the same universe as the free-to-play MMOFPS browser game Contract Wars.

Motion capture was used to create realistic movements when the weapon is idle, removing jammed cartridges, being shot, or when the player is reloading. Most weapon animations contain five movements, but the team added ten times the animations all divided into segments and adjusted appropriately. This allowed the team to create smooth transitions between movements and weapon use.

The diary also into various character movements, stances, and speed. You'll also notice one of the development team members sporting an Oculus Rift, which is rather interesting as well.

It's all rather interesting, and gives you an idea of how far the project has come since work first started in 2012.

Escape from Tarkov an MMO shooter where players are caught between two paramilitary organisations, and are cut off from the rest of the world. The official website goes into detail on every aspect and you should give it a read.

If you missed Westie's gameplay video you should give it a watch. Not only will you get a glimpse at in-game footage, he also goes over game modes, character progression, player cap and much more.
