Emotional Molyneux lauds BAFTA in Fellowship speech

An emotional Peter Molyneux paid tribute last night to BAFTA for being the first to truly recognise videogames as a form of entertainment.

The Lionhead boss was honoured with the BAFTA Fellowship last night by Sir Ben Kingsley, who appeared in one of Molyneux's games last year, Fable III.

"Ten years ago, they started this award and started recognising our industry. Actually, they were one of the first and what a fantastic job. I think they've done an amazing, amazing job," said Molyneux.

The Populous, Syndicate, Black & White and Fable creator also paid tribute to the industry as a whole, and cited Minecraft and Limbo as examples of what the development community is capable of now.

"The cool thing is, the amazing thing is about this industry, is that we’ve got all the amazing, incredible cinematic stuff that we’ve seen today, all the triple-A stuff, and we’ve got cool stuff like Limbo, like Minecraft. This industry is incredible, man, and we are so lucky to be here.

"Honestly, every day I wake up and thank the stars that I am still here now. I love my job so much, and I really feel like going back home and working harder than I’ve ever done to really prove that I deserve this award."

You can watch Molyneux's acceptance speech over on EG. Find the full list of winners at the BAFTAs here.

Congrats, Pete. Don't ever give up.
