El Shaddai designer modelled character on himself

Sawaki Takeyasu, lead designer on El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, based charismatic angel Lucifel on himself. Sawaki, my dear, send pics.

"A lot of people tell me Lucifel reminds them of me," the designer told Siliconera.

"I think some of my personality may have rubbed off on him. That’s another reason I had an idea of what Lucifel would look like right away."

Takeyasu's not comparing himself to an angel - he tried to make Lucifel quite human.

"His design was inspired from various American movies I saw. When I imagine angels, they don’t necessarily have wings and halos. I wanted to show Lucifel as a human. Lucifel is basically a good looking guy with red eyes," he explained.

El Shaddai's protagonist, Enoch, wears a pair of jeans, because Lucifel, who can trvel through time, brought him a pair from the future. This is another Takeyazu touch.

"The reason why there are jeans in the game is because I really like jeans. Before I even started creating the game, I wanted my main character to wear denim jeans and that’s why Lucifel brought Enoch jeans," the designer said.

El Shaddai releases on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in mid-August in the US, and arrives in Europe in early September.
