The battle royale sub-genre is getting a new entry, and it's one that borrows from more than just PUBG.
Egress is a new action RPG with Souls-like combat that's also a multiplayer battle royale game. If you ever imagined Dark Souls PvP with a battle royale twist, this will probably be it.
Even if you haven't, the premise still sounds intriguing, even if it's a mishmash of ideas. Egress is in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One at Fazan, a developer whose only other project is Beastiarium, an atmospheric horror game.
Egress is set an alternate universe with Victorian era-architecture, inspired by Lovecraftian mythology. The press release (via Gematsu) mention unique abilities for every hero, but sadly doesn't talk about the number of players or the size of the map.
What it does say, however, is that, much like Souls combat, you'll be relying on dodges and rolls. Egress includes melee combat as well as ranged abilities.
Egress it out on PC, PS4, and Xbox One this year. You can sign up for the closed beta at the link.
