EA Sports MMA takes a sales beating, but sequel still a matter of "when," not "if"

When your game's been out for less than a month and analysts are verbally slamming it with slobber-knockers like "DOA at retail," it might be time to throw in the towel.

EA, however, hasn't even considered it.

"There is definitely going to be an EA Sports MMA 2," EA Sports MMA producer Jeff Ecker told Figure Four Daily (via CrunchGear), adding that the sequel's release is a matter of when, not if.

The game was very well-received critically, but lacked the brand recognition or drawing power of the UFC. As a result, its pithy 45,000 first-month sales may as well have been a scrawny lightweight matched against UFC Undisputed 2010's Brock Lesnar.

In other words, if EA pulls this off, God's going to be accused of being unoriginal for doing an exact repeat of his performance during "David vs. Goliath." Best of luck, EA. You'll be needing it.
