EA servers went down for about ten hours last night, on Battlefield 1 beta's first day

EA online services took a hit yesterday that lasted until the early hours of the morning.

Yesterday was the first day for the Battlefield 1 open beta. But just as many players started matchmaking, the servers went offline.

This wasn't just Battlefield 1, of course, as EA later confirmed in a tweet that it's a company-wide outage that affected game, services and even support.

Shortly before that, a hacker group claimed responsibility. We won't name them here, but they've claimed responsibility for similar attacks on game servers in the past. EA has not revealed the cause for this sudden and wide outage, however.

Around ten hours later, the company confirmed that service has been restored, but not before most people had already went to bed or went and played something else.

The Battlefield community in particular has been the most disappointed, as many players' anticipation for the beta turned into frustration when they failed to connect to servers for hours. Hopefully today will fare better.

The Battlefield 1 open beta is available now on all platforms.
