Modding tools for Dying Light are in the works

Techland is working free and "extensive" modding tools for Dying Light, the developer announced today.

According to the developer, Dying Light and its sandbox gameplay "is a perfect material for modding," the team is working on tools in order to give players creative freedom to creative "fresh and interesting" content.

The firm is inviting players to visit the official discussion board to share mod ideas with the team.

"Modders were a massive part of our gaming community since Call of Juarez 2 and Dead Island - and we wish to continue that with Dying Light," said Techland. "This invitation is only the first stage of our cooperation with the gaming community.

"After the modding tools are released, we plan to actively support the coolest mods created by players."

Earlier this month an issue with mods created for the game surfaced when a patch released by Techland to cull cheating mistakenly hindered mod-makers. The developer released a patch to re-enable common tweaks.

Then, there was also the issue of Dying Light mods being taken offline by DMCA takedowns. Techland said this should not have occurred and the Entertainment Software Association agreed.

The takedowns were issued by a third-party vendor not the ESA or the game's publisher Warner Bros.

Retractions were "issued immediately," and the ESA apologized for the inconvenience, promising similar situations would be avoided "in the future.”
