According to the development team, deriving mechanics were inspired by films from the 1960s such as the fantastic Steve McQueen movie Bullitt.

The cars in the game were designed to feel authentic, with players able to experience the feeling of heaviness and inertia of vehicles manufactured in the era. These are also correctly modeled cars created by designers with "degrees in this kind of engineering."

Road surfaces will also have an impact on how well the cars handle. Muddy roads and wet asphalt are just two examples.

Mafia 3 is in development for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and will be released on October 7.
