Dragon Quest X hits Wii in August, no Wii U date

Square Enix has unveiled Japanese launch plans and subscription prices for Dragon Quest X, the latest, MMO-like outing for Wii and Wii U.

Andriasang reports Square Enix Japan has announced the RPG will arrive locally on August 2.

Only the Wii version was mentioned, but as the Wii U itself is yet to be dated, it seems likely the publisher is just holding off until Nintendo makes its plans publically known.

The core game will cosy ¥6,980 or ¥8,980 when bundled with a USB Memory card, and will come with 20 days of online play.

Subscriptions will come in 30, 60 and 90 day flavours for ¥1,000, ¥1,950 or ¥2,900 respectively and will provide for three characters.

Interestingly, Square Enix intend to host special free play sessions exclusively for children.

Dragon Quest X is not online only, but you'll need to get connected if you want to play past the first few hours. It's currently in beta.
