Dragging & dropping loot no longer has a delay in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, but picking stuff up individually still does

After players on the test server complained, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developer Bluehole has reverted the change made to drag and drop looting.

The live version of the monthly patch will no longer include this change when it goes up in a few minutes.

In the version currently on test servers, the developers added a slight delay to dragging and dropping loot that prevented it from being semi-instant. The patch notes said that this was done to provide "a fair gameplay environment to all players."

This made players very unhappy, as it was a big change from how things were without too much of a benefit. Bluehole actually tried to implement this change a few weeks ago, but ended up removing it after it resulted in a bug.

After first saying that the delay when using either the dragging or picking up method will be removed, the game's official Twitter account later posted a new update with a revised plan.

Now, the delay for dragging and dropping is staying out, but it won't be completely removed from the other method. Instead, Bluehole decreased the delay when looting with the F key and added an animation to the dragging method. Here are the two patch notes added today:

  • Added animation when using the drag & drop with inventory. This is merely a visual addition and does not affect looting speed.
  • Slightly decreased the delay time when looting items with F key. After testing with no delay internally, we have decided to reduce the delay instead of removing it entirely as it felt very unbalanced with no delay.
