Doom has an Easter egg only fans of the classic game will enjoy

Hidden in every level of the new Doom is a throwback to the old days.

The new Doom has a very amusing Easter egg that's sure to delight fans of the original. Some spoilers to follow.

Every level of the game has a lever that, when you pull, a door opens somewhere in the level. What's behind the door? Well, let's just say something old school Doom fans will appreciate immensely.

Here's id Software showing one such secret off to IGN. According to the developers, these are actually classic Doom levels, and even include the original music.

You may remember seeing something similar in Wolfenstein: The New Order, another Bethesda-published game that had recreations of old school levels from the classic Wolfenstein games.

Take a look:

Doom is out May 13 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
