Doctor Who: Adventure Games to return for second series

The BBC has recommissioned Doctor Who: The Adventure Games for a second series next year.

The first series launched this summer, with the first three episodes downloaded 1.6 million times for free by those in the UK with a TV licence.

Sumo Digital will once again head development, with most of the show's main team, including producer Steven Moffat, still on board.

Matt Smith and Karen Gillen will also return to provide their likenesses and voices to the game as the Doctor and Amy Pond, with the new series to feature "additional members of the Doctor Who cast."

"Given the success of the first series, we'd be daft not to recomission," says Simon Nelson, head of multi-platform in vision at BBC.

"We've set new standards in audience participation - and we think we've really helped push the concept of families actively playing together. I can't wait to see what the team does next."

The final episode in the first series will be released "later this year."
