Digital sales for November up 25% yoy to over $1 billion, according to SuperData report

SuperData Research has issued a digital market report showing 25% growth in the sector year-over-year to over $1 billion. The figures do not represent physical data in the US, which will be reported by NPD later this evening - and will be worth staying up for as the November report will note the first sales figures for PS4 and Xbox One.

According to the data handed over to the [a]list daily, the new consoles likely helped pad the digital sales.

"Several big franchises released on the same day as the next gen consoles,"noted SuperData Research. "In particular Call of Duty: Ghosts, which generally launches two months later, was now immediately available via digital download on Xbox Marketplace and PSN.

"Similarly, Need for Speed Rivals and the late-October release of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag and Battlefield 4 drove overall sales. We expect this trend to continue for the remainder of the year."

On PC and consoles combined, DLC sales were up 41% to $325 million for the month.

Mobile and social grew "by just a few percentage points" and free-to-play MMOs fell 17% for the month.

Thanks, GI International.
