Details emerge about Chucklefish's magic school follow-up to Stardew Valley

Chucklefish, the publisher of truly excellent farming sim Stardew Valley, has revealed some details about their next adorable project.

We first heard about this (still unnamed follow-up) when 'Tiy', founder of Chucklefish and the lead developer on Chucklefish's previous hit, Starbound, casually tweeted out an image of the game in development

Now PC Gamer has delivered more details and exclusive screens in an interview with Finn Brice, CEO of Chucklefish. Will the game hasn't technically been 'announced' yet, Brice is happy to talk about what the team has been working on.

The game is set in a magic school, where you will play one of the students. 'The goal has been to create a game world that is entertaining and charming simply to inhabit', much as Stardew Valley's town was a pleasant place to live in. The game's most obvious influence is Harry Potter, but Brice also cites Kiki's Delivery Service, Garth Nix's Old Kingdom, and Terry Pratchett's Tiffany Aching books as major touchstones for the project.

You'll be learning magic, of course, so there will be crafting systems. 'There are many different kinds of magic/crafting/potion making/farming systems in this game and each of those needs to be rewarding and satisfying in their own right', Brice says. 'It’s important to us that the game captures the nostalgia of school life as much as possible. Expect memorable moments drawn from our own experience that we think players will relate to'.

The game is clearly a while off yet, since they are yet to pin down a name or show footage, but hopefully we'll know more details about it soon.
