Destiny The Taken King - creative director talks £40 price, exclusive emotes, more

Bungie's Luke Smith talks about the price tag of Destiny's The Taken King in a new interview.

Destiny's upcoming expansion, The Taken King, will cost £40 in the UK, which is the same price as Destiny when it launched last year. Eurogamer spoke to creative director Luke Smith about the price, as well as how The Taken King's exclusive content requires owning the base game and both of its expansions.

"So, purchasers get a big, rich campaign. Fully voiced cinematics and the story of what happens when an angry alien god wages war on a solar system, all with a satisfying conclusion," Smith said when asked if the the expansion's content justifies its price.

"You also have a new subclass to pursue and unlock. We also have a bunch of new strikes - we're not yet talking about how many - and a new raid. We're showing two new PVP modes and four PVP maps this week, and it's a fairly safe bet we're not done yet showing things off. So I'm fairly excited about the value proposition. We're calling this a major expansion because it is. We're giving people a whole new place to go, that new destination..."

When pressed further to give an opinion on the price , Smith added, "We're really comfortable with the value we're giving to players this autumn. I believe that once we begin to share more, players will be even more excited. And for existing players it also comes with the Founder's pack with a new Sparrow, shader and emblem."

As far as offering these exclusive emotes - or any other cosmetics - for real money, Smith said that there's nothing to announce on that front, but that like any of the announcements they make, fan feedback will always be considered.

The rest of the interview goes over the changing nature of Destiny, and how events that took place during The Dark Below and ones that are happening now with House of Wolves won't be repeated for players picking up the game this fall. It's worth a read if you're a fan.
