Destiny Halloween update adds pumpkin head vanity item

Destiny was updated yesterday, and Bungie made a few unannounced changes related to the spookiest time of year.

The latest Destiny patch was nominally concerned with making the Raid harder and the servers more stable.

Bungie also made a bunch of unannounced changes, too, including a number of item additions. Unlike the last few batches of new content (alternate raid armour sets, custom shaders) found in the game's backend, some of these have been found to be live and accessible in-game.

Flight of Shadows is a consumable that "changes the appearance of your respawn" for 24 hours - a vanity item, in other words. It is earned by killing Hive, and the item description reads as follows: "Are you the dream of a sleeping god? Or the nightmare of a dead one?"

The Jackolyte is also earned by killing Hive, and gives you a three-eyed Jack-o-lantern head when used. "The Hive may haunt the dreams of children, but you haunt the dreams of the Hive," the item's description reads.

Jackolyte's are delivered to you via the Postmaster in an item called All Hallows' Eve. "Guardian! Do not forget that you returned from the dark. Celebrate these days of the risen dead," the description says.

Here's a video from xHOUNDISHx showing off one of these items in action:

Bungie has also added four new Sparrows, each of which has a new perk called Destabilizers, which allows you to perform rolls in mid air, but these haven't been found in-game yet.

  • S-30 Tumbler - It takes a skilled field mechanic to disable limiters without destabilizing the entire drive.
  • S-31 Nightfall - Drive fast and take risks.
  • S-32 Snowflake - In modifying field drives, the limiting factor is tolerance to the idea of explosive engine disassembly.
  • S-33 Dragonrider - At some point, it will come down to how tightly you can hold on.

Finally, Bungie seems to be planning some sort of referral system. There's a new item called Refer A Fireteam with the description "We celebrate every Guardian who returns from the dark. A gift for you for leading another one home." Nobody's sure what that is, unfortunately.

Data mining sites DestinyDB and DestinyTracker both have records of the new items.
