Iron Banner returns to Destiny tomorrow

Destiny PvP fans have their chance to shine when the Iron Banner multiplayer event returns this week, bringing with it a slew of changes to the criticised formula.

Destiny's Iron Banner kicks off when November 18 hits the US in a few hours.

According to Bungie.net, the event will run through November 24 this time, and as your rank will be reset at the end of the event, you only have until then to earn the new goodies.

One of the most notable changes to the Iron Banner is the chance to earn level 30 equipment - that is, armour that can be upgraded to the current maximum light level, allowing your character to reach the cap. Until now, only armour won in the raid supported max light levels, so the event gives non-raiding players a chance to be competitive in that regard - as well as makes Iron banner gear a viable alternative to the raid set, something the shooter has been sorely lacking now that everyone's wearing the same thing.

Other changes to the event include a reward for losing which will net you decent ranking points when you finally win a match, and bounties direct from Lord Saladin himself, and an XP boost item that lets you earn Iron Banner ranking faster the closer the event is to ending.

Bungie has discussed changes to the Iron Banner in detail before, and they're also outlined in the Destiny patch 1.0.3 notes.

The first version of the Iron Banner was not well communicated or well received, which worried me, but Bungie was open to feedback and soon told players it would adjust the event to meet their expectations.

The Iron Banner is a great temptation for those who have let their attendance lapse or even shied away from PvP so far. If you're an experienced Destiny PvPer, there's a good chance you'll be schooling some pure PvE newbs coming in to try and get the exclusive gear, so enjoy that. Anybody who refuses to shoot me will earn 15 Internet points.
