Destiny: "Aggressive" anti-lag settings apply to all playlists next week

Destiny developer Bungie is applying its anti-lag matchmaking settings to all Crucible playlists.

Destiny: The Taken King may have reinvented the shooter's PvP scene, but it didn't resolve the Crucible's lag problem.

After introducing and then backing away from skill-weighted matchmaking earlier this year, Bungie began experimenting with stronger anti-lag matchmaking settings. These settings have been tested in Control and Iron Banner over the past few weeks, but as of a March 8 hot fix you'll find them everywhere.

"The newest settings are more aggressive about keeping latency low than we’ve ever had in Destiny," senior designer Derek Carroll wrote on Bungie.net.

As well as the new matchmaking setting, Bungie is applying Damage Referee to all modes. This new tech is designed to more fairly sort out who wins an engagement when one side is experiencing lag.

Carroll commented that these new changes are open to improvements, and will in fact make it easier for the team to tinker in the future.

It's not clear whether Bungie means Trials of Osiris when it says the new matchmaking is rolling out to all Crucible playlists, as this weekly mode is technically separate from general Crucible. I suspect not; the conceit of Trials is that it focuses on skill, and as your wins mount up you find yourself facing tougher foes.
