Destiny 2 raids won't have locked loadouts, but Nightfalls will

We've known for a while now that some activities in Destiny 2 will lock your loadout to what you went in with.

Bungie never actually said which activities will have this limitation and which won't, but at gamescom this week, news came out that raids - at least in hard mode - will have locked loadouts.

The information originated from a PCGamesN article based on an interview with gameplay lead Justin Truman. The article was later corrected, revealing that Truman wasn't actually talking about raids.

Seemingly in response, game director Luke Smith later confirmed on Twitter that raids will not lock your loadout. "We don't want this; 'I just got Midnight Coup to drop, let me quit to equip and I'll rejoin,'" he said.

Back to the Justin Truman interview, what the lead actually said was that Nightfall strikes will lock your loadouts in order to make the experience more tactical. This is in line with earlier comments Bungie made about setting a timer for Nightfalls.

"When the activity starts, your loadouts are restricted for the duration of that activity," explained Truman.

"An example is the Nightfall Strikes, where we wanna make it really about the tactical decision-making of: 'what do I want to bring in to maximise my ability to play this strike with these modifiers on.' You have to make those decisions up front, because we then lock your ability to change your loadout for the duration."

Let's hope these changes won't make the Nightfalls - one of the more accessible ways of getting great gear - unnecessarily challenging.

Destiny 2 is out September 6 on PS4, and Xbox One. The PC version launches October 24.
