Destiny 2: how to get keys for the secret Exotic engram chests in the Leviathan Raid - and open them without a fireteam

Destiny 2 makes the Leviathan Raid more rewarding with a series of extra, secret chests. Here's what you need to know.

In Destiny 2, players who dare to venture into the Underbelly of the Leviathan Raid can find nine secret chests waiting for them. These chests have a comparatively high chance of containing Exotic engrams, and also reward the Raid reputation tokens you'll want to trade in for Raid gear drops.

As part of our Destiny 2 guide we've already published locations of all nine secret chests in the Leviathan Raid for your Exotic engram farming pleasure, but today we're taking a step back in order to explain a bit more about these chests.

As we noted in the earlier guide page, all nine secret Leviathan Raid chests require keys. Each week, you can earn a key as a drop for successfully completing each of the three main encounters described in our guide to the Leviathan Raid.

Which key you earn is random, but each of them has a name, so you can track down the matching secret chest using the Leviathan Raid secret chest Location guide linked above. Keys will be removed from your inventory at reset each week, so it's in your interest to get down into the Underbelly and open the corresponding chest as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, the majority of the chests are not only well hidden in the maze of tunnels under the Leviathan Raid, but also well-guarded by security robots called Watchers. In order to collect, you need to destroy all four Watchers near-simultaneously - so the easiest way to collect your treasure is to head down into the Underbelly irght after a Raid, while your fireteam is still together. If you can't manage this because everyone has commitments or needs to sleep or whatever, it can be difficult to interest your non-Raiding pals in making a trip especially for your loot.

Don't worry, though: it is actually possible to murder the Watchers in good time all on your lonesome, if you have the right build and position yourself correctly around the Watchers. This won't reset your checkpoint, by the way, so if you have one or two keys but are planning to head back in and challenge Calus later in the week, you can do it at your leisure.

YouTuber iPhilamazing runs through eight of the nine chests with a Titan build below, and has said they'll try to get videos done to show how it can be achieved with Hunter and Warlock builds, too. The video is in German but uses English in-game, but you'll find timestamps for the chest names further down the page so you can find the one you're looking for.

The only chest not covered here is Pipeline (Chest #3 in our Leviathan raid secret Exotic chests guide), as nobody seems to have figured out how to solo that one yet. Thoughts?

We'll be watching for the promised Warlock and Hunter runs, but I'm sure some clever clogs will figure it out sooner or later.
