Bungie details Infamy, Gambit's ranking system in Destiny 2: Forsaken

Gambit, the PvEvP mode coming with Destiny 2: Forsaken, is one of the expansion's most exciting additions.

In the most recent this week at Bungie series of blog posts, the developer revealed how Destiny 2: Forsaken players will be making progress within Gambit, and get rewarded for playing.

It all comes down to Infamy, Gambit's progression/rank system. Completing Gambit matches earns you Infamy points, and so will winning. Losing also earns you points, but you get a lot more for winning. Infamy will also reward unique gear, though it's only available to players dedicated enough to climb through the ranks.

In some ways, Infamy is similar to PvP's Valor progression system. Infamy ranks (Guardian, Brave, Heroic, Fabled, and Mythic) are split into three tiers each in order to allow players to have easy to achieve, shorter-term goals.

There's one final rank, called Legend that only has a single tier. This is the highest rank in Infamy, and it's not going to be easy to attain. Outside of that, Infamy works in a similar way to Valor.

This essentially means each consequent rank will require more points to complete than the one before it, and that getting a win streak will earn you bonus points (capped at five).

The Drifter, the NPC responsible for handing out Gambit items, wil also offer daily bounties. These aren't free, but completing them will earn you Infamy points that go towards your rank progress.

After reaching level 50, the Drifter will start offering a special weekly bounty that awards a big amount of Infamy points, as well as a piece of Powerful Gear.

In the same blog post, Bungie also revealed some big changes coming to Guided Games, matchmaking, as well as clan gameplay and progression.

Destiny 2: Forsaken launches September 4 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
