Destiny 2: Black Armory - Scourge of the Past raid details, Power level changes, The Dawning and more

Destiny 2’s Black Armory DLC dropped on December 4 and Bungie has announced new content we can expect in the coming days and weeks.

There’s quite a lot to unpack from this week’s blog posts, so we’ve broken it down for you.

Destiny 2: Scourge of the Past raid

The Scourge of the Past raid begins today at 5 pm GMT/ 12 pm ET/ 9 am PT and takes place in the Last City on Earth. Bungie has advised players to “dust off your sparrow collections. You’re going to want the right perk, and the right look, for crossing the finish line” as well as insisting that Guardians “grab the final chest to complete the activity before returning to orbit”, so make sure you have a good look around before you and your Fireteam leave the area, grab that chest and cross the finish line.

The first fireteam to defeat the raid will be crowned as World First and will receive a raid belt. The final six teammates who finish the raid will receive this reward, so if you swapped out halfway through, it’ll be your replacement who gets the loot, not you.

Destiny 2: Black Armory Power level

Bungie has already dropped the Power requirements for Black Armory by five, as many enemies were immune to Guardians who had managed to reach 600 in Forsaken and Forges were inaccessible. Prime Engrams will drop more frequently and with larger Power bumps for players starting December 11. Further changes may also be made in future updates to assist with Power climbs, so watch this space.

Destiny 2: Crucible changes

Yet again, Matchmaking in the Competitive playlist is a point of contention in Destiny 2 with low Glory teams being pitted against high Glory teams. There may be a few changes made to how Glory is earned in the future as the system is under investigation.

Power ammo availability is also being decreased after complaints it was too spawning too frequently, so the time between Power ammo spawns has been increased.

Competitive:

  • Control: Initial timers stay the same, increased respawn timer for heavy ammo (was 45 seconds, now 120 seconds)
  • Clash: Initial timers stay the same, increased respawn timer for heavy ammo (was 45 seconds, now 120 seconds)
  • Survival: Initial timers stay the same, increased respawn timer for heavy ammo (was 45 seconds, now 60 seconds)

Rotators:

  • Showdown: Initial timers stay the same, increased respawn timer for heavy ammo (was 30 seconds, now 60 seconds)

Rumble:

  • Initial timers stay the same
  • Increased respawn timer for heavy ammo (was 60 seconds, now 120 seconds)

Destiny 2 changes to weapons, gear, Supers and more

Sandbox features were also discussed, such as the smaller, more frequent updates for Destiny 2 rather than shipping out one or two massive updates a year.

Rapid-fire snipers will be moving to a two-shot body kill, with more snipers potentially being able to one-shot supers on headshots in a future patch. Lower zoom scopes do exist in the game but have been limited to a few weapons, so we’ll likely see more of these soon. Don’t expect sniper flinch to be changing any time soon, though.

Nova Warp is also getting a tweak in the new year, along with changes to melee. Subclass paths will be receiving some new buffs in January to make them more relevant for the new endgame content.

Buffs for Exotic weapons and gear are also set to change, which will affect the rate of fire, reload speeds, damage and may perhaps lead to a few items being nerfed.

Destiny 2: The Dawning

The Dawning seasonal event begins on December 11. Eva Levante returns to the Tower where you’ll be able to make Chocolate Ship Cookies and share them your friends who in turn will give you mods, Legendary gear and the Avalanche machine gun. Seems completely reasonable.

There will be a few bounties to complete, Triumphs to earn and you’ll be able to unlock an incredibly festive Sparrow. The Sparrow comes with a Glimmer Boost, Glimmer Trick and Instant Summon, where you’ll receive Glimmer presents. Yay!

There will also be Double Engram drops from Eververse, with players receiving a Bright Engram and a Dawning Engram when they level up. You won’t receive any duplicate items unless you’ve received the entire Dawning collection already, which is nice. You can also exchange Bright Dust for ingredient packs so you can bake till your heart’s content.

The Dawning lasts from December 11 until January 1, 2019.

Destiny 2: Forges

The Volundr Forge was discovered in the EDZ this week and the Gofannon Forge is now available. This presents players who don’t feel ready for - or who aren’t interested in - the raid with a new challenge and set of activities to get stuck into.

The 2.1.2 update is due to go live on December 11, with exact times yet to be announced.

Black Armory comes with new Exotic weapons, Pinnacle weapons, Forges and more. You can check out our guide on where to find the Mysterious Box here.
