DDoS attack brings Operation Supply Drop’s 8-Bit Salute website offline

27-minutes after Operation Supply Drop’s third annual 8-Bit Salute fundraising event started, the fun was halted by a DDoS attack.

According to an email sent to us by Operation Supply Drop, the site was back up over an hour later, but the charity expects it will happen again over the next 24 hours.

Since the attacks affect incentives, the team assures everyone who donated will still receive their rewards.

Due to the hacker disabling the entire 8-Bit Salute website to the point where it "will get repaired after the marathon is over," a direct donation link to PayPal is through here.

Operation Supply Drop's 8-Bit Salute ends on May 18, and is an event where players jump in and play all day and night to help raise funds to send video game equipment and titles to US troops deployed to combat zones or recovering in military hospitals.

Naughty Dog, Wargaming America, Rooster Teeth and ASTRO Gaming are part of the charity event this year.
