DCUO servers merging into MegaServers starting August 8

SOE has announced on August 8, the firm is expanding the DC Universe Online server system into what it’s calling MegaServers.

The server merging still segregates the PC and PS3 crowd, which is unfortunate, but it makes up for the lack of cross-play with providing more players available in Gotham and Metropolis and other zones to jaunt around with; however, there are a few quirks to the merge.

There will be instances where duplicate character names will have to be changed. Players whose names have been changed will be sent an in-game email which includes a free Name Change token and instructions as to how to change the name if they do not wish to keep the name assigned by the system.

In situations where a League name is changed due to another League on the combined servers having the same name, leaders with groups needing name changes will receive an in-game email with instructions on how to make the League Name change and the Free Name Change Token will be included in the email.

The new servers will be rolled out in phases, and the game will be made unavailable for approximately 10 - 14 hours during the roll out.

The PC and PS3 schedule for the conversion is posted in a producer’s letter over on the official DCUO website.
